A huge part of that stupidity that JJ loved was related to racing. Not being a boyfriend and how a boyfriend should behave. And at the end, most likely the reason JJ just would not make that effort to spoonfeed Leo of what is wrong is because Leo wasn't listening. It took Leo a break up to lend an ear. And honestly, I see it that if the reasons came from JJ, the dynamic will not change - JJ looking out for Leo, instead of the other way around. Giving in to what Leo wants. JJ already said so when they confronted at the club on what to do but Leo is not finding other ways to find out. He was relying on JJ instead.
That's just how I interpret it. It's a growing up stage for Leo but JJ won't stop his life and wait for him.

The best for Leo is to talk to Frank. Just ask why did JJ leave him or what made JJ angry, or something along those lines. Leo has not talked to anyone analyzing the situation. He'll never arrive at an answer if he is going to wait for JJ to tell him and expect JJ to just wait for him. Yeah, it's going to be toxic if they get back together or if Leo finds another relationship without realizing how he has been behaving.
