It’s not like people read illegally because they want to, I’m sure that if they could afford it, they would buy physical or digital copies of the work.
For me, piracy or any illegal access often acts like free advertisement. For example, I first discovered MXTX’s works through a fan translation on an unofficial website. But because I enjoyed her stories so much, I ended up buying most of the hardcopies of her novels.
Many people around the world simply cannot afford to buy every book, fiction, or game they love. Some prices are too expensive, especially for those who struggle financially, and there are even countries with limited access to official distribution channels.
Whether we accept it or not, piracy can help new or lesser-known creators gain exposure and build a fanbase. When readers discover a work through unofficial websites and become fans, they often support the creator later by purchasing official products, attending events, or even promoting the work.
There are also many works that are not officially translated or distributed in certain regions. Kindhearted fans often translate these stories for us, which helps the work gain recognition. So when the official translation is eventually released, it already has a large international fanbase. We also need to understand that some official releases are restricted by region or platform, forcing fans to resort to piracy just to access content.
I’m not trying to justify illegal actions by saying they’re right or wrong, but when a public figure with thousands of followers responds by wishing negative things upon their illegal readers, I think the situation could have been handled better. I understand how frustrating it is to have your work stolen, but people who aren’t financially blessed shouldn’t be hated just because they want to enjoy the things too.

Euja already said she doesn't want to be famous through piracy. Piracy is not for helping authors and it's not for author's benefit. We have piracy cos we want to read it for free, so I really don't think we need to act like participating in piracy "helps" the author. Tbh, these are more like excuses to make ourselves feel better.
The author's own hard work and talent plays a much bigger role in becoming famous. Plenty of pirated works out there (even free legal webtoons) aren't as popular as LTIT, so it wasn't piracy that brought fame.
If popularity from piracy always guaranteed massive amount of money, why would authors be so against it?? And it also doesn't make sense why there are popular projects that got dropped due to financial trouble after pirated version got leaked.
When I saw that Chapter 97 was labelled as "Finale" I was yelling while reading the chapt. You don't know how much relief I felt when I saw "To be continued"... also, it's not like our dearest author will do us dirty by ending it like that... but still ahahaha.
