I suspected that Prof Ma was somehow included in the initial production of jungle juice or something similar. He has always been a bit sketchy and for a human (as far as we know because I don't think he's ever shown his insect trait if he had one) to be in NEST is kinda odd. Unless they had Intel related to the amber.
And clearly Prof Ma isn't evil. He's trying to clean up the mess he made (I think so at least). I mean so far he's been against Pet Shop and their ideals, this definitely shows that Ma regrets something.
