As much as people like or dislike what the Ex did, whether it was right or not, It may be just what Shinwoo needed. I believe that brief event will be one of the factors that'll drive the plot forwards in terms of Shinwoo's development since it put further emphasis on what Han's grandfather previously advised which Shinwoo might need to think about to carry on. Shinwoo's mental state makes it so that it's hard to break down his anxious mind on a viscous cycle of relapsing to negativity at any given moment of perceived fears. In such a state, it's hard to remember and maintain faith to what people tell or give you, when your afflicted perception overpower what's actually real. Heck even when it was happening right in front of him, we see how hard it is for him to muster belief in the situation. It's just the reality of things, painfully laid out that is of Shinwoo's character. It can take arduous amount of convincing and reassurance to keep care and navigate through that kind of life. It's never easy. We can see Han very much trying but not immediately making it through in that regard. When Shinwoo is the long-standing witness to Han's past tendencies, coaxing him out of his worries by that very same person is a grueling matter. (Goodluck to you Han) What he needs now is the input of other people around him added to his newfound experiences so that Shinwoo himselfs decides and make up by his very own mind himself what he should do to be able to give credence to Han's sincerity. The way he is right now, his grip is fragile, expecting to one day give up on something that's barely started. But in time, I wager Shinwoo will find the courage to believe in himself to do something by his own decision to not easily give up on something he will realize to be his happiness.
