Seriously though, this author's work is a masterclass of how to convey emotions between characters through their art. Pretty much everything they've written is incredible. They strike an excellent balance between melancholy, comedy, and genuine heartfelt expressions of devotion.
Season 1 is set up to tell the story of Ian. Season 2 is set up to tell the story of Brian. Season 3 will probably go back to Ian or maybe it will even focus on Sol, who knows. Thinking about it in terms of a flashback is really not accurate and is doing the story a disservice. Skipping season 2 is missing a huge chunk of who Sol is as well as the history of this story. If you don't care about that, you don't care about a huge part of the story that the author is telling because you just want your ship feels.
The author clearly is trying to tell a very intentional multi-generational story with world building and intrigue at its very core. This isn't your run of the mill BL that just focuses on fan servicing with one ship against all odds.
I loved season 2 and I'm sad to see it end because of not only the betrayal that Brian faced but also the heartbreak that Sol has faced that will color the rest of his life. But I'm also interested to see where the story will go from here. This is a fantastic story and I'm sorry that a lot of people don't have the patience for it.
