That's one of misconceptions tho, on puppies/dogs/cats. They don't have rabies at birth and it's not innate on them. They only acquire it in a dirty environment, and not all have rabies.

if you know the premise of this story, then in the past these two characters are dating in secret especially since it was a time when same-sex relationships were looked down on way worse, but then the fathers of the two guys caught them and went after them basically to break them apart, so then one of the guys starts begging and one of the fathers uses violence on him, so the guy just realizes they can't love and be free with each other, so he decides to kill himself and his boyfriend devastated follows him and also kills himself, and then in the present time they I guess reincarnated but they don't remember their past lives, until they start dreaming about them
