We really don't know (〜￣△￣)〜 The author backstory goes like this:
Basically the author was pretty much a normal person in the normal world but always wanted to be something bigger. The author wanted to be the center of the attention of everybody so somehow they decided to write a novel and the novel is basically the authors alter ego and its preference by creating their own perfect version which is Lizzie. Lizzie is everything the author wanted: beauty, attention, popularity, innocence etc... The novel started to gain a lot of popularity but just like this novel, people started to get really tired with Lizzie character "how can she have so much love interests and no progress in character?", "this is a very cliche story", "im so tired with this novel with a weak main character" bla blah blah

The author very offended by this btw lol. Anyways, the author dies and became part of her own novel. Now, who is the author? we don't know because its being so long that they have forgotten their own name so they just called themselves as K. Now, what's up with the 13 Ediths. Well the author believes the system was made for them so there has been a total of 13 souls (victims) that the author has chosen. Now, the author has no interest in changing the story whatsoever, they think this is a game. The author just likes the story line where lizzie is young, beautiful and loved so as soon as an Edith dies the story starts again (its literally like a fetiche they have no interest in continuing the story).

So the author is basically a narcissist, immature, selfish mf.

Author/Lizzie is just practically narcissist that she always wants a "villain" to make her shine.

the author, K, is actually suicidal in her og life as far as i can remember. she lived a horrible life, and as a way to cope through it, she made lise, the perfect fl, as an inspiration. K has always dreamt of being lise because unlike her, lise was everything. as ive mentioned, K is suicidal. she ended up offing herself and her death wish was to be lise or at least be like her in her next life. as soon as she opened her eyes, she found herself as lise sinclair, the very own female lead she admired.

at first, being the main protag was fun. until she realized that she's sorta stuck in a loop, which made things dull. to make things "interesting", K planned on transmigrating souls in edith's body while setting up impossible conditions for the ediths to win, in order to guarantee that in each lifetime, lise wins and lise will always get her happy ending. by setting conditions, i meant altering or manipulating the perceptions of the main leads of the story, most significantly killian and cliff. that's why edith had a hard time developing a decent relationship with killian, because killian was basically programmed to act that way. the only way killian will get a sense of free will is if edith is able to go through the tough challenges of K's terrible obstacles.

Im guessing since from the start she wasn't really in a great mental state. (suicidal and all)
And the fact that being in the system is like playing only one long ass game and you cant skip any cutscenes and after finishing you just go back to the start. So you'd get bored and try to do wild shit cause no one else will know and everything would just restart anyway. (just saying an example of how she feels, we know she's somewhat restricted by the system.)

So yea with a not so great mental state and a slowly deteriorating moral compass with each passing loop cause... Lol she bored af.

I guess she thought something like real human lives would be entertaining to play with. Cause at least one factor in the game is always changing /unexpected.
But she still gets the upperhand with her "exceptions or challenges" that would let her win in the end

There is actually a part where Edith tells K (Lizzie) how can she be such a horrible and selfish human being by choosing those 13 souls and giving those impossible request for each Edith to pass (a total of three but the past Edith's didn't even passed the first one). the author tells Edith how can she be selfish when they were already dead? Crazy person I swear.
