i think i'm the only one idk if i am the only one but lol at first i thought Haze was Manager Kwon... but some scenes in real life don't add up to me or looks weird if you connect it with the Ills World scenes and after Haze met up with Lucien the GM and said some phrase about being glad that a lot of people liked him and that he was rooting for him. (chapter 92)
the way it was phrased sounded like Haze knew Jaehyun's past. and lol stupid me thought it was crazy Jungwoo. but i thought to myself that he's too calm so maybe he's sorry and was repenting? and this was his way of "helping him" or seeing him? since Haze always looks at Lucia and that he was always quiet and sad. and since Jungwoo was not allowed by Jaehyun to go near him, maybe this was what he thought of... but it was still weird to me...
stupid me forgot people can change their gender in games and forgot tat Kim Saeyeon was also someone from Jaehyun's past. and now it all adds up!!!! (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
...
sorry hahaha just wanted to share.
maybe someone out there thought that it was jungwoo as well at some weird point of their time reading it hahaha
(warning long read sorry)
i'm in chapter 35 .. lol funny to ask even tho i'm at ch. 35 but i'll still do it.
is it worth the read?
ok i get the slight harem thing and i do also like the fight scene / him being looked down on but later on was actually much stronger than them as the story progresses. (he gets stronger everyday!)
altho it does kinda irk me when people inside the manhua make women feel like stupid sometimes
at first i was pissed at ML/Zhou Fan but i remembered he was this demon emperor of hell or something (idk. can't remember) so he had to be cold and selfish so i was... "ok, you're an exempt", but the other dudes? it's like they think all women should look like they have to stand still, be pretty and look stupid. although it's only little scenes or just speech bubbles so i can't really give full examples.
maybe it's just me being used to this generation (of cool women?) and that this manhua was from an old generation long ago? idk.
they introduce these women and give us a really good first impression. from the calm Luo family lady, to the smart like Qianlong pavilion woman with "good" inspecting eyes in the Jade stones, and the cool assassin like girl from the black wind mountain... they looked cool at first and then when the story progressed they went downhill :( the Luo lady and assassin girl only became love interest for Zhuo Fan, nothing happened to them they just became love interest and was left there. none of them were trying to be better for themselves like training or studying etc. and the Qianlong pavilion woman... now she always underestimates the ML all the time
as of now (in the part where i'm reading at) that's the only thing that's going on.
i like the other parts, some irky things are bearable. just wanted to ask if that type of thing related to the women being portrayed like that will continue on until the latest chapters?
would love to hear from you guys! ^_^ cause i really do like the plot of this (since lol i'm already at ch. 35 hahah)
I also have an issue with how women are portrayed not just here but in all these wuxia type manhua. Even if they are strong/train they all seem to ultimately exist to want to get into the protagonist's pants. Now leaving that aside to focus on the women of this specific work:
The Qianlong pavilion lady (I never remember names either lol) is actually the most believable out of all of the women. We are looking at things from the MC's perspective (I will bring this up with the final lady) so you think to yourself, "why is she always underestimating him? This is annoying!" It is annoying but from her perspective, he's doing things that no one at his power level should be able to do. It's naive of her to continue underestimating him the more she sees him doing amazing things, but it actually does mesh well with her character. We see that she is haughty and childish rather than an upholder of truth and justice as she initially wants to come off as. Her introduction was more about her wanting to uphold Qianlong pavilion (and therefore also her) reputation in a city run by her Qianlong pavilion than to just stop some swindler. If you were to run a city, would you want it's reputation to fall by people getting swindled or mugged?
So now that we have this character base, we see her treating the main character cordially at first. He then disrespects her (in her eyes) by calling for the elder in charge, eventually showing her inexperience and inability to judge the worth of an item properly, a skill she is known for doing well and is quite proud of. So this rude attitude she has with the main character is more to do with her pride being stepped on and practically trampled every time in front of him. She responds with repeated childish acts of revenge. Once even going so far as to make him fight the prince, a person she knows he cannot allow himself to lose to or truly harm.
3 more women to talk about after this
The Luo family lady and assassin girl don't have as deep characterization as the other two imo so I'm just gonna put them together.
The Luo family lady is apparently practicing some style of martial arts but we've barely seen it. Idk if she hasn't studied as hard because she always expected to be married off or the author just forgot that this is a wuxia world where everyone trains and everyone always fights, but we'll see. What I do like about her character is that, although the MC is really the one in charge and leading the family, she does her best to step up in political matters when she needs to because the MC is supposed to just be her Butler while she is the family head until her brother is older. Other than that, she's kinda just the sweet young miss that the MC has to protect. Nothing really wrong with that but I wish that they didn't bother showing that she knows martial arts but maybe everyone needs to know the basics to survive and that's where she is.
The assassin girl, in my opinion, is the biggest disappointment out of them all. Focusing on her good qualities, she is very loyal. This, however, turns out to also be her downfall as blind loyalty is what got her into that mess in the first place. Other than that she's an okay fighter, a better intelligence agent/spy but nothing really stands out about her. She for some reason, falls for the MC's charms despite being tricked into thinking she was going to get raped if she didn't give up info on their first encounter, having nearly caused (or at least help cause) the destruction of the family he is with, and literally *just* getting her heart broken by her ex-fiance's betrayal. She also fights with the family head/young miss whom she's supposed to be working for, after initially getting along with her, all because she happened to fall for the same guy. The reason why I'm less accepting of her trying to get with the MC than the Luo family lady is because despite trying to pursue the MC, the Luo family lady doesn't lose her main motivation, the Luo family survival and prosperity. The author doesn't seem to forget who her character is. The assassin girl, on the other hand, once her arc is over and her grandfather gets saved there's big motivation beyond pursuing the MC. You could say that she's now devoting herself to the Luo family so that's her characterization, but she immediately subverts that every time she fights with the Luo family lady over the MC.
Before leaving however, the MC did give the assassin girl some skills to learn and the mission of training troops or a spy squad or something so maybe this will be better in the future when he gets back.
1 more lady after this
This final girl is actually my favorite, I even remember her name... Nickname? I'm not quite sure how Chinese naming schema works but it's Ning'er.
I, along with many people in the comments as I noticed, did not like Ning'er. We all thought she was completely useless beyond being a guide for the MC and thought she was going to try to be a part of the harem and just be annoying too. The author set that up so well. Remember how I said in the first part with the Qianlong lady that we are seeing things from the MC's perspective? Well... This one I actually won't fully spoil for you. You essentially feel the same way as the main character: she's the weakest person there, she'll slow everyone down, it's much better to leave her behind or else everyone will die. You probably wouldn't be as harsh about it as the MC eventually is but any logical person without some emotional attachment to a stranger they just met would want to leave her behind as shitty as it sounds. The author twists it around and makes you feel guilty for those thoughts just as the MC is eventually and it honestly made Ning'er my favorite female in this as well as her arc my favorite arc so far. Even better? So far she doesn't seem to be into the main character romantically.
So in short, there are some annoying, even cringey, parts but overall it's a fun read if you like wuxia and/or arrogant assholes. I'm hoping the other women get the same story turnaround that Ning'er got.
omg thank you so much for your effort in replying to my long comment. it made me understand it more so thank you (also i'm the same with you. the reason i went to post this long comment is mostly because of that assassin girl hahaha ) made me understand the other girls more. and also will be waiting for that Ning'er
If you read one cultivating manhua you've read them all. it's mostly all about following the main character from a poor, bullied, weakling. to a rich, powerful, and getting revenge badass main character. my problem with people who read "cultivating manhua" a lot of them always complain that the women just throw themselves at the main character! but the reality is that's how it would go in real life as well. they make it seem like the females are poorly written when that's the furthest from the truth.
ah... i don't want to sound racist or anything hahaha
is it because it is a chinese manga? like in their romance genre some of them are like... different concept but kinda same plot(? sorry did you get it? hahahhaa) well i've seen some japanese manga that also applies to this thing where the MC goes from weak to OP and then he also unknowingly adds people to his harem of sorts... is that correct? hahaha
awww :( hahaha i was kinda hoping it was like the korean manga ... Solo Leveling(?) more on the action and less on the romance and plus in that manhwa they dont really degrade women ... well in a way hahaha anyway Thanks again !
Possibly. I do notice this trope in a lot of Chinese manhua. Solo leveling warrior is Korean, not Chinese so the trope wouldn't apply as it's not exactly a Chinese cultivation manhua. Also, to say that that's how all women behave in real life like we're some kind of cookie cutter/copy-paste clones in terms of motivations is not only wrong and misogynistic, but also just delusional.
Anyways, these particular sets of Chinese manhua, wuxia/cultivation, date back on the setting where having multiple wives was not only okay, but a sign of wealth and prosperity. A man was who normally brought home the money so the more wives he had, the more successful he was seen to be. In addition to this, having a harem's main purpose was to secure the bloodline as childbirth and raising was a lot harder in those days. Miscarriages were common and children would die all the time without modern knowledge of proper reproductive health practices. So with the knowledge of why harems are common, why would women be jealous and fight over something that is supposed to be natural? Well the wife who had her husband's love the most would have the most power. Without ways for women to get power back in those days, they would have to fight each other for their husband's affections for a better life and more power.
This gave birth to the image and trope of the jealous woman vying for the man's love. On a side note, this is actually funny because in today's china it's quite the opposite. More men than women exist there now so men need to vye for the woman's attention even when harems are no longer a thing. Anyways moving on. So this jealous woman trope is very common in a lot of Chinese wuxia works likely due to the little history above. As for why they degrade women in this particular harem genre compared to others...? I really don't have an answer to that. I'd like to attribute it to bad writing because it technically is. If you can either remove a person from a story with little to no effect on the plot or boil down a person's actions to a single motivation that they aren't properly fulfilling... What is the character's point for being there? They don't have to have the same drive as the main character but these women are often written as vengeful and spiteful with no other reason but to be just that. Fortunately we aren't seeing that too much in this work even if it does seem to fall prey to a lot of the same wuxia tropes but yeah... I can speculate as much as I want but I can't give you a clear answer as to why they are consistently written this way even if I can tell you where it came from.

everytime i get a notification in this manga and another one (i forgot the name) whenever i click it they say "Sorry, the page you have requested is not available yet." and i have to search it up before i can read it hahaha
Happens to me too
Same! I usually open all my new chapters from the notifications page and it always ends up as a 404, but when I open it not as a new tab but in the current tab, it does work..
Yeah same. But this book is not the only one for me, there are few more books that same thing happens
Yes for me too! Can't remember which ones, but it's always the same ones. I also recently have been having problems with loading chapters. With certain manga, sometimes it loads really long and then 1) only displays black pages and 2) sometimes also really trips up my computer. It's really annoying, since I have to read the manga somewhere else and sometimes even have to restart my laptop :')
This one and that blonde girl with that scary evil daddy king that is isekai
