Exactly this! The Phantom is supposed to be someone who protects, cherishes and adores Chris(tine), none of this obsessive, waterboarding bullshit. They could've bonded so much more platonically and Chris could've initiated the sex himself, the Phantom/Erik should've been his safe space for that...
