This bastard loves Doumeki, it's so obvious! stop hiding it already, I know you want to protect him but he's a grown ass man and he can make his own decisions! LET HIM BE BY YOUR SIDE DAMN IT! ╥﹏╥

My take on it is that Yashiro is 36 years old, he has been creating an act and a shield around himself for most of his life, all of his adult life anyway. He developed certain coping mechanisms as a response to being abused by his step dad, abandoned by his mum, and accepting that his only love ie Kageyama would be unrequited, because along with other reasons, he thinks quite lowly of himself and that he is a bad influence. Yashiro was triggered to recount his past, and the life he has led, after the experience at Doumeki's house. He remembered being a child and trying to pretend that he was okay, and how this manifested into his 'masochistic" act as a teenager, and became his identity as an adult. In an earlier chapter Yashiro told Kageyama when they were at school, that he might take up acting as a profession when they graduate, this is fairly true, as Yashiro adopts a role as the Waka gashira, but it also applies to his personal life too. He is more at ease with the control he feels in his current lifestyle, he is still able to feel superiority, he is familiar with what happens. However, when he was with Doumeki he is completely out of control and doesn't know how to act and what to expect. This is why in the car scene, he tried his usual tactics of being a cheeky twat in order to try and gain superiority, or kicking someone he viewed as a subordinate, like he usually does with Nanahara. However, unlike with his usual subordinates, Doumeki did not accept Yashiro''s talk, and he didn't let him kick him. Ultimately Yashiro isn't suddenly after a few months of knowing Doumeki, going to be able to just give up and move on from his established identity and coping mechanisms. For him to start a relationship, an egalitarian one, is something that may be extremely traumatic for him. The pace isn't rushed, and it's more realistic for all the characters to still have ongoing struggles. Doumeki's intervention in Yashiro's life is possibly prompting him to move on from being that lonely child, crying at the window, and be able to be more honest with himself, to admit that he is scared or hurt, and hopefully be able to feel love for someone other than the love he felt for his old friend.

I'm guessing he would be killed, or even more injured if Doumeki didn't step in. He protected him from the motorcycle assassin, I doubt Chestnut would have acted as a human shield. So he likely wouldn't have survived even just stepping out of Kageyama's clinic. Even if he survived this and went to see Hirata, he's hardly in the position to attack him. And Chestnut doesn't have the same allegiance to him, like his formal subordinates & Doumeki, so Chestnut may not have defended Yashiro fully there too. Chestnut has obeyed orders to go see Hirata, and do whatever Yashiro has instructed/or he sees best, but this is more about the thrill of it (as they say they get excitement from such) rather than actually caring about any group or it's leaders. Yashiro though, thought he was protecting Doumeki and everyone else, by trying to do things himself. He also didn't want to potentially deal with the consequences of knowing that his relationship with others as a yakuza, caused people to get hurt or die.

I 100% agree with you. With Doumeki, he feels vulnerable and does not like it all because deep inside he's weak and severely damaged from the constant trauma he faced during his childhood. And yes, his facade is defiantly a coping mechanism (a cry for help, if you ask me). I defiantly have no problems with the pace the story is making, I don't like rushed events either. I like it when the plot and characters simmer for a while longer till we get the satisfying outcome we've been waiting for. I was just frustrated when i made this comment ╥﹏╥

Didn't like this at all. So all over the place and toxic, with no plot or character development. I didn't feel any thing but confusion. (⌒▽⌒)

I am also confused, but for another reason. If you read it all, you’d see that there was actually character development. In the beginning, I can agree with you that it might be a bit toxic, but later on, mr. seme realized that what he did was wrong, and tried his best to correct his mistake. Also, I feel that I you’ve read the translators notes at the end of the chapters, it should’ve helped you see that this isn’t all over the place, there is character development, and that the author didn’t just glaze over the fact that there was rape. I’m sorry if this reply is all over the place, but I’d like it if you could actually see this as something else, other than a toxic mess.
So are they just going to keep up the mind games and revenge plots? It was all exciting at first, but now it's getting tiring and repetetive. It's so childish to get him back this way, to be honest. Just confront each other, fight it out, and break up or something. I hope this story gets better in the future.
