I genuinely love this manga, but what is it with stories always making characters ‘soulmates all along’ with some secret past they both forgotThat trope never really clicks with me. It just feels too perfect and shiny. it’s like it’s trying too hard to be fate. I like when connections i stories are built with work and sweat and tears. not handed out by some forgotten backstory. that seems unnecessarily harsh, but please trust me i really really do LOVE this story. it’s mostly just something i’ve noticed its become a trend among romance manga writers. but atleast this story did it amazingly. like this manga is one of the only mangas who’s written an actual amazing “soulmates all along.” trope. ♀ i praise the author for their fan

As someone who read the novel, I can say the author uses cliche tropes in a unique way. I was truly amazed by her story. Regarding the forgotten past, it’s forgotten for a reason. It also hardly plays a part in the main story for the couple in terms of their relationship development. They don’t need a forgotten past to show how good they are for each other. However, there is a reason why that past exists and it coincides with why this manhwa is called “The Broken Ring”. The past is also the trigger that started the repeated tragic timelines.

I believe this is an “Asian way”. It's a theme that always appears in doramas and mangas. They must be very attached to this theme because of religion, beliefs… idk

A Silent Voice tackles bullying, ignorance, and the pressure to fit in with raw honesty. It shows how easily anyone, including the sweet, “harmless” kid can become a bully or a silent bystander. it’s insane how deeply the series explores its characters. Each one is forced to confront their past and take responsibility, and the emotional weight of that is so real. Shouya’s path to redemption is one of the most moving arcs I’ve read. it’s about guilt, forgivenes and what it means to change. I love this story to bits.

Akane is such a refreshing main character. She's so relatable and I love all her worries and inner dialogue. So lovable!!! No annoying and unecessary tropes, no sabotaging of the relationship because of insecurities. But I also love how we get to see their imperfections later in the story. She’s literally a himbo in female form. The side characters keep evolving, and I love all the little subplots and connections between them. This story is already amazing, but it just keeps evolving and getting even better with every chapter!!!!

If you haven’t read Ouran High School Host Club, literally what are you doing with your life? i watch the anime over 12+ times per year, and no matter how sad you are I can almost guarantee even a sliver of happiness when you're with the host club. It was TRULY ahead of its time. The two main leads are incredible and so unique. THE blueprint. the literal most iconic power couple in all of shojo. Ouran pays tribute to every manga stereotype but cleverly subverts just enough to keep it fresh. read it. join us.

The art style is absolutely phenomenal, sensual and elegant. The fashion in the manga is amazing, and it gives off a fashion magazine vibe. Sometimes I just find myself staring at the pages without even reading. It’s an excellent series that truly captures the essence of love. I honestly believe they’re soulmates, whether romantically or not. I love the relationship they have how it’s like a thin veil between platonic and romantic it’s so beautiful and intimate in its own way. nobody talk to me i’m crying

So funny. Let me tell you, I’m a sucker for stories with characters who break traditional gender roles. The contrast of him having this terrifying yakuza presence while secretly living his best himbo life while his breadwinner wife dominates. absolute perfection They’re my dream relationship. wish there was more couple time, i want to see their dynamics moreeee

have such deep affection for Shima, and he’ll probably remain one of my favorite characters of all time.
At first glance, Shima seems like your standard romcom male lead. he’s tall, blonde and a bit aloof. At first, i enjoyed his presence but assumed he’d be another charming, popular love interest with a predictable personality. I could’ve listed ten others just like him without a second thought. But somehow, he completely defied my expectations as both a romantic lead and a character in his own right.
Shima is a character written with tons of care, specially because of his slowly but steady growth. It’s only as the story progresses that we begin to see beyond his easygoing facade and catch glimpses of who he truly is beneath the surface.
To both the audience and the characters around him, Shima appears laid-back and effortlessly friendly. His casual demeanor, his charm, and his gentle(if somewhat distant)interactions with others all paint a picture of someone who doesn’t take much to heart. His kind yet dismissive response to Mitsumi’s comment on the train reinforces that impression: he laughs it off, keeps things light, and seems unaffected.
But there’s a quiet turning point in his portrayal. A small, seemingly trivial argument with Mitsumi shifts everything. In the heat of the moment, he throws her comment from the train back at her, revealing that it did, in fact, affect him. The moment is brief, but he says it with a distant and cutting smile. It shows that Shima has the capacity for sharpness, and more importantly, that he isn’t as untouched or unbothered as he seems. He internalizes things. He masks them.
Up until this scene, our understanding of Shima has largely been built through the lens of others. How he acts, how he’s perceived, but never quite how he feels. It’s only when he and Mitsumi reconcile that we hear him express his emotions directly for the first time. He’s suddenly vulnerable, frustrated, regretful and anxious. It’s a side of him we haven’t seen before, and it’s clear this kind of emotional openness doesn’t come easily to him. From this point on Shima's thoughts and feelings are a lot more accessible to the audience, and that makes a huge shift in how we come to understand him going forward.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Shima isn’t simply an easygoing, go-with-the-flow kind of person. He’s a chronic people pleaser. He struggles to say no, especially when others expect something from him. He smiles, nods, and plays along, often at the expense of his own desires and ambitions, which seem so distant and neglected that they barely exist at all. And what’s most striking is that he doesn’t resist this, he leans into it.
Rather than pushing back or asking who he wants to be, he accepts the version of himself that others project. He knows people make assumptions about him before truly knowing him, and instead of challenging those assumptions, he conforms to them. Over time, this has hollowed out his sense of self; he stops cultivating the parts of himself that might contradict what others expect. He becomes a reflection of other people’s perceptions, a role he plays so well, it’s almost easy to miss the emptiness underneath.
Shima is such an interesting character, largely because he’s such an unreliable narrator. He genuinely can’t seem to tell when he’s being sincere and when he’s simply performing kindness out of habit. Because he developed his people-pleasing tendencies as a child, they’ve become so deeply ingrained that he no longer recognizes when he’s acting out of genuine care or just going through the motions. Even with Mitsumi, he can’t quite grasp why his kindness toward her feels different or if it even is. Shima carries a lot of hidden resentment toward himself. So much, in fact, that he doesn’t believe he’s worthy of being loved. In his mind, the kindness he’s shown, because it comes from habit and not intention feels fake, performative, even manipulative. He convinces himself that being kind with the hope of receiving kindness in return is a form of emotional dishonesty and a way of tricking people into liking him. one of my absolute favorite moments is when when Shima admits the light that Mitsumi carries is so blinding he feels pale in comparison. When says he cant see himself walking next to someone as good and deserving of love as Mitsumi.

but Loving someone means accepting their flaws, recognizing their scars, and being vulnerable enough to stand beside them anyway. Sometimes, it even means stepping back because you believe they deserve more than you can offer. That kind of love, quiet, selfless, and deeply respectful defines the relationship between Mitsumi and Shima. That mutual respect is what makes their bond so beautiful to me.

Mitsumi sees through Shima’s self-doubt. No matter how much he insists that his kindness is just a defense mechanism, she knows better. She’s experienced the warmth of his actions firsthand, the way his presence has grounded and supported her. What he calls a facade, she knows is simply the part of him he’s afraid to believe is real. And she loves him for it—not for some version he pretends to be, but for the person he already is, even if he doesn’t see it yet.

She never demands more than he’s ready to give. She never pushes him to explain his past or reveal wounds he’s not ready to show. She offers quiet understanding. She listens when he speaks and lets silence fill the space when he doesn’t. She knows that one day, when he’s ready, he’ll tell her about the parts of himself that are still hidden.

ahhhh!!! sorry i’m an idiot lmaoo no but i literally can’t do structured work and writing. it’s a huge problem for me. my essays are actually ass. my brain only cooperates when I’m writing about something I’m genuinely passionate about. the moment I try to write anything structured or ‘proper,’ it turns into absolute garbage.

i think writing is more of a process of creativity than something to be disciplined and formalized. a lot of my writing is started in short sentences that i build on and later think deeper about. i usually write in small chunks about whatever catches my interest, then piece them together later. It makes the process easier. once the core ideas are there, I go back and add opening lines and transitions to tie everything together. ╥﹏╥ especially when it comes to polishing things up and making everything grammatically correct. that’s just the weird way my process works. everyone has their own writing style though

This is such an amazing story. probably in my top romances ever read. It brought me to tears of devastation twice & tears of joy all the same. it was beautifully nuanced and funny, but also absolutely morally grey in the beginning. I was so worried to start this because of the age gap, but it became something so near and dear to my heart. they all grew and matured so so well, and it was amazing to watch the fl grow as a person. she just came into her own. GOD this was good. I sobbed my eyes out. And the side couples? IMMACULATE.

Hello!! I’d love to share my favorites with you!! I actually have a whole list of romances I love. it’s called “straightie hidden gems and best finds” if you want to check it out. All of my reviews are there!

That said, my favorites aren’t exactly in the same genre as this story, so sorry in advance if that’s disappointing

“Skip to Loafer” is hands-down one of my absolute favorites. probably my favorite romance manga ever. It’s a beautifully done slice-of-life seinen romance with extremely strong writing, lovable characters, and realistic emotional depth. i can’t even rant enough about how much i love this story. it’s genuinely an emotional experience to read and i’ve written paragraphs upon paragraphs in my notes reviewing and analyzing the characters

I’ve been absolutely in love with this series since the first time I read it. Historical stories with a twist of romance are my favorite, and this one is an absolute gem. Maomao’s character is strong-willed, a little unhinged, and endlessly entertaining. Her unique personality meshes perfectly with the rest of the manga’s cast. the romance takes a backseat to the main plot, but I love that it does and the romantic moments are just as lovable and hilarious. UGHH SO GOOD

although every time i see a light novel spoiler i shit my pants ( ̄∇ ̄") their relationship was never the absolute healthiest but it sounds like they’ve gone to the dark side recently LMAOO. but tbh when you put two masochists together that’s what you’d expect to happen.
