Honestly yes the mc has a trash personality lmao but he knows the limits and he actually does care about human lives. Repeatedly, he's been saving/ shielding people even if his thoughts are mean sometimes. I think its better than the pushovers and always nice guys out there lol gives the story more character y'know HAHAHA and makes him more human, cuz lets face it, no ones perfect and everyone has a selfish side, some just hide it better. Plus, its not like he never learns ╮(￣▽￣)╭ I think he IS mellowing out and having character growth so lets wait some more
