If some of the movies I've seen have any accuracy to them, there was not just gold and silver, there was paper used. They were most likely promissory notes that could be exchanged for gold or silver (since let's face it, paper is much lighter to carry around)

As well as a drama adaptation called The Untamed on Netflix. Just be aware that the romance is nicely hidden under the quise of friendship due to Chinese censorship laws :))
I would mostly recommend reading the novel though. It's pretty long (at least felt long) but its the best and original of the three. You also get to read all the 18+ scenes too (⌒▽⌒)
hate these 3... no prob with sis con but you need to smack their heads to live in real life instead of making up situations that don't happen and they blame someone they don't know. and the other is so easily manipulated. smh
