I’m not completely sure, but I think the original Hikaru didn’t love Yoshiki in a romantic way. Besides being interested in girls, I think he was somewhat aware of Yoshiki’s feelings, and by using expressions like “gross,” he was preventing a possible future from happening and protecting their friendship. Because if Yoshiki confessed and he couldn’t return those feelings, their friendship could have ended there. Maybe that’s also why, after his death, he wanted Yoshiki not to end up alone. He knew that Yoshiki was gay, and that if he left, Yoshiki would be left lonely and devastated.
The fake Hikaru, at first, wanted to protect Yoshiki with Hikaru’s feelings and saw him as a friend (his first friend), but unlike the original Hikaru, he eventually truly fell in love with Yoshiki. In a way, he deviated from the original.
I think it was mentioned in the first chapters that the current Hikaru was more clingy to Yoshiki. I don’t remember exactly and I didn’t check, but that would mean that the old Hikaru, even though he was close friends with Yoshiki, wasn’t as intimate with him as he is now.

Its not because he said being gay was gross that he never actually loved him. Internalized homophobia is a thing, and I believe the theory that the manga is a metaphor of that.. since the only hikaru who accepts his feelings and shows them to yoshiki is the ‘monster’ hikaru since that is how your own feelings are seen when you experience internalized homophobia. for me, it hits close to home but it might not make as much sense to you.

Yes I agree with this. It’s interesting how Yoshiki and the “new” Hikaru’s relationship has developed being in a weird gray area where new Hikaru being more clingy/intimate pushes the boundaries for Yoshiki. It makes him hard to let go of especially when he had obvious, and now, admittedly romantic feelings for him. Though, he’s certainly a resilient character in standing on business knowing that new Hikaru is not human. Ngl I imagined this story to maybe turn it into a second chance type of thing where “Hikaru” returns Yoshiki’s feelings which in a weird way sort of does but the author does a good job of making the characters consistent. I think the next thing will be the tragedy of him killing off his first love as the end since they can’t keep him alive.

It might just be me, but I wouldn't want to be with the person my sibling slept with. Isn't he actually the kid's uncle? It's weird when you think about it. If I were the MC in this story, unlike what happened here, the possibility of a romantic relationship would be completely cut off. Well It is not me lol. The drawings were beautiful.

The Japanese version of the new chapter is out, but I think the English version will come next week. I looked at the raws and I'm so excited! I want to read it as soon as possible! ヾ(☆▽☆)

Here! ( *¯ ³¯*)♡

I really wish this series would get an anime, and the MC’s voice actor wouldn’t be someone super famous, while all the other canon couples were voiced by well known voice actors. I want it so that while the other couples get main character voices, the MC ends up with a background character voice.
Idk if I'm tripping or not, but I remember seeing anime trailer with plot exactly like this, ig it's animated version of this manga? But I'm not really sure if it is really this manga
I think it has been adapted into a drama! I don't know if it's any good tho
Yea yea, this has live action and I think it's good LA
For the drama cd the voice actor of tojo and hatano are Eguchi Takuya and Hatano Wataru. While the mc's seiyuu is not unknown (Yoshiki) I would say he's definetely less known than the other two (same for his brother)
