Nah, it's a heavenly dragon meant to help that monk on his quest. The "extra" is basically them going on the "Journey to the West," which is the ancient Chinese novel this manga is based on! (seriously, the whole "monk gets constantly kidnapped cuz he's delicious" thing is legit, and the fact that the mangaka makes him look "cool" is definitely a joke, lol ;p)
