I know it sounds silly, but something about the way the some of the eyes are drawn is just uncomfortable. Some are normal, stylized character drawings, and that's fine. Of course it's not supposed to look realistic and different artists have different styles. All totally fine. But...
Some of the eyes appear too flat, and I don't mean because it's a drawing. It's like there's not even meant to be an actual eye behind the lids. Like. The pupil and iris of the ML look fine, but the white of the eye is such a flat white that goes so far... it's like if you had two pieces of paper, then cut a hole on the top one so you could see the second sheet beneath. It's like most characters are normal drawings, but the ML is a drawing of something wearing a human mask.
I know I sound crazy. It kept nagging at me because it's so hard to pinpoint or explain why the eyes are so different to me. I had to vent. It was creeping me out too much and I couldn't focus on the story anymore.
BLARGH. I apologize to anyone who read this.
And there's a lot of justification for some of the things that might make people want to drop this. It's tragic in parts, sure, and can be really dark, but I promise the novel was above average for the genre (in my opinion). And before anyone asks- it's on novel updates, or at least was very recently, and if you make an account you can access the links and such. I think the translation was even completed. Any way. Don't drop it for protest reasons right off the bat... and if I could say more without spoiling, I would. I just didn't want people to miss out on something they would've potentially really liked.
I'm glad!! Of course certain things are 'unforgivable' and such to some people (I have my own dealbreakers, too) but this is a rare case where 1 or 2 big 'unforgivable' things really are there for reasons and may be an exception for some readers after the plot starts to unravel. If anyone is considering dropping because of that kind of thing but isn't sure...I hope they give it a bit of a chance.
I thought it was some tragic circumstance that could be fixed and UGH. I'm clinging to there being a secret reason, like trying to be undercover to destroy from within or... something. I know I'm trying to justify trash because the trash is so pretty, I'm aware I accidentally pass out 'pretty privilege' because my heart is a ho... but there's gotta be a reason for the random bits where we see some kind of good in him, right?? The author must be trying to make him hard to hate because eventually we'll get to forgive him, right?? Damn pretty trash.
The mother connects to my soul. The author has gotta be another parent. The mother just 'gets it'.
and this adaption is like plain, cold rice in comparison... but... I'm just here to support and simp Terry. Oof.
Yeah, I get they're trying to keep it simple so it doesn't take like a decade to make it... and theoretically it would make it easier to understand... but it really doesn't. The plot is losing all the context that explains everything and all the little clues and foreshadowing that takes the story deeper. And, I mean, they're unintentionally skipping all the stuff that makes it so funny and exciting and occasionally heartbreaking. It's like we're just getting the bones of the story.
I'm glad we've got this adaption, of course. I don't mean to be greedy wishing it was 'more'... but I can't help but be a little greedy. My fangirl heart is thirsty.
and the next dozenish chapters are gonna be ~lit~. I'm excited.
Sorry, again, it's not!!!! It's not an actual full climax. I just meant the next few plot points are really exciting in general compared to before, at least in my opinion, and I'm jumping like a child waiting to open presents. Like at the beach. A small wave cresting, a lull, and then a bigger wave knocks you out- being on the warmup wave feels exciting.
I've been eager to see the next chapters adapted this way, so I'm hopeful! Just geeking out and glad other people are seeing it, too.
but did y'all notice they put socks on him when they tied him to the chair? Like. Is that normal courtesy after decking someone with cookware? Is it because being tied up might bother his circulation and his feet might get cold?
It just kinda caught me off guard when I was checking him out.
Between getting knocked out with the pot and waking up tied to the chair, one of our youngins apparently decided he needed socks. Just a really bizarre unexplained detail. Not something I'd personally consider a priority in a random hostage situation, but one of them seemed to think it was important.
to being my toxic yandere wet dream, but UGH he has crossed the line to full on evil a few times. Else seemed bad until you quickly learn he manipulates her into acting toxic and possessive. (Not really a spoiler because they make it pretty clear early on) I seriously think our first impression of the FL was framed to make her look bad so we dont feel as bad when her life turns to hell. But that boi-
A character drawing has no right to be that hot. I've tried to pretend the violence didn't happen. My psycho self loves this spicey toxic drama if I can ignore that incident... but... So HELP ME GOD I will quit if he gets married and sleeps with someone else for "political reasons". And the spoilers?! If this adaption doesn't change the plot line somehow (and yes I'm thinking about that one really bad spoiler) I'm going to be unhealthy amounts of pissed off.
The artwork and angst and spice and dark yandere romance is all up my alley, but these stories always take it too far. Sorry for the rant, I'm just venting.
Lmao, well, I know it can depend on the reader to decide what's too much or what exactly is truly irredeemable, but I actually have a list where some are at the light end, like just made mistakes or there was a misunderstanding... and then I have some extreme ones further in the list that many people would never find redeemable. Bottom circle of hell kind of people. Lol.

Red flags are like my mating call. I can't stand cheaters or clear cut physical abuse. I usually stop reading completely. But- if there's no actual cheating or physical abuse (like slapping or whatever) then I'll forgive almost anything. So. There's over a hundred there, you'd probably enjoy a handful.

the story is so bad. I'm over 20 chapters in because I'm a fan of the the genre. Several chapters looked like the MC was clumsy and impulsive, but it could be in a fun way... nope. I don't want to spoil with examples, so here's a dumb analogy:
It's like... if she was on a diet and couldn't gain weight or she'd literally die, she's the kind of person that would not only join her friends to go out to a buffet. She would skip everything except the dessert. She'd sit at the table devouring several plates of desserts while telling everyone it wasn't her fault, it was total coincidence, she can't help it because the dessert section is closer to the table. She was the one who chose the table. She's in a good mood though, because gee isn't she so cute and funny as she sits there doing exactly what she says she doesn't want to do? "Teehee, I'm totally dead tomorrow if I gain weight... I dunno what to do <3" Um, if you're not going to leave, then you could maybe not be walking over for another plate of cake, are you kidding me?? "I don't even like dessert, I wish I didn't have to eat this," she says as she gets another plate overflowing with cake.
Then she'd leave without paying her part of the bill.
I know people are complaining about this being "mid" but it's honestly not that bad. It has a good story, it was just really rushed. If they took the time to flesh out the characters and the actual storyline, it would've been so much better. My disappointment stems from how rushed it was, I thought like yes? I guess Ventini could like Kar, but they didn't really develop their relationship that much other than "solving crime together," so their relationship felt lacking in that aspect. However, I think they were still cute together. Would loved it even more of the pacing was a lot slower... and dug deeper into the prince, the empress and the rest of the main cast ngl
