She saw him with rose-colored glasses 24/7. We did not see his POV behind closed doors during that time. There’s signs already from way back then that he was not as good as she though he was. (Already borrowing money for the phone which he wanted her to have so that she specifically could contact him- which benefited him the most). Making fun of her grades, wanting to look good in front of the people in the town.
Then I guess, it wasn’t any good from the start, and when things initiate with pretense it was meant to fall down no matter what.
