That, or milder versions. But main point is that, based on the tidbits of flashbacks shown, the top didn't exactly "love" the mc when they got together, but he also didn't hate it. He probably fell in love somewhere in the middle but never realized it until recently, he seems used to repressing his emotions from growing up seeing ghosts all the time.
