Sucks that that was what stuck out the most for me in this story.
The main story had an interesting premise and twist, but the author didn't dive more into it; especially after the sad truth was revealed.

That was definitely the trend back then in manga like this. Semes were complete utter assholes asserting their dominance with no care of time or place —for no reason—and the ukes were so unbelievably weak minded. You still have semes like that now but at least they have a good backstory.
