I understand she a single mom but i don’t get why she needs him to be in the spotlight like does she like it or is she an attention seeker
I can probably try but I don't recall exactly what was going on with his mom or spoilers. So if u can summarize it to me I can give it a go
She sees her son as an extension of herself basically, because she knows she doesn’t really have anything to speak of herself, she uses her son’s achievements and credits it to herself. She sees him as her only achievement in life and a product she constantly has to polish.
She’s dependent on him for emotional and mental stability, if you look at the chapter when his angel video was first filmed. It was clear that she has a terrible habit on relying on other people for emotional support in how she practically stopped functioning after her husband died, it was only when the video was filmed that she remembered that she has a kid and there was a role that only she could do, so she hyperfixates on him.
You can say shes just an attention-whore but i think her obsession with it comes from a place of insecurity so she tries to overcompensate through public validation on her son.
It's probably hard to know without actually doing an interview with said fictional character or until we know her childhood or background. She's definitely someone insecure or she probably perceived herself as weak.
Could be a range of things tbh, she sort of meets some criteria for narcissism (NPD) even if it's not about herself.

Anyways, she has a lot of things in common with a narcissist but they're more about their son so I am not sure she quite fits there. She definitely exploits her relationship with her son to vicariously live through him, has this entire fantasy in her head she thinks is true and has an excessive need for admiration (for her son). I'd not say she's someone with a dependent personality cuz she's not helpless without Ian.
So my bet is on narcissism because of either emotional neglect from her parents or over praising/high or perfectionist expectations that she was never able to fulfill .Seeing as how she views him as her only achievement she probably developed these narcissistic tendencies to make up for some trauma in her past where she felt she was not enough or weak.
I never think of her being an attention whore from your analyzation of her but from that I see her as my aunts especially in my asian household, they use their kids as an accomplishments when their is none of them own. Trying to boost themselves up tho ward their kids, wow it was a great analysis and reading that feels close to home considering i’m never got that end until recently when now i have a full time job in a good position
Hmm I definitely think you’re spot on as well cuz in the spoiler she does do that. She seeks out the reporter then it disappoint and almost curses him out from him rejecting her request to do another “angel” hot take on him.
