The Author (in Ellencia’s body) tries to kill Philomel’s real mother because Philomel’s real mother starts to get suspicious that Ellencia is acting weirdly. And then one thing leads to another, and we all find out the truth.
They manage to save the real Ellencia and send the Author away. Everything eventually falls back into place. The only problem is that the Emperor wants Philomel to become his adopted daughter. At first, she wanted to but it is revealed that on the night that she heard the Emperor talking about her living like a dead rat and how he knew she was being mistreated and how he knew she heard every bad word said about her — she didn’t want to forgive him.
Even though the Emperor pleads with her, she says no and only agrees to exchange letters with Ellencia and the Emperor. She moves to live with her real family.
For Nassar, their love story is kind of meh. Nassar basically tries to help her, she doesn’t want to accept her feelings for him, but eventually does. And they start their relationship and her real father + brothers + Emperor + Ellencia is all very protective of her especially from Nassar.
The ending is basically just Philomel living with her real family, moving on from the Emperor but also trying to still be on good terms with Emperor + Ellencia. Ellencia is learning how to be a princess. Philomel’s mother being able to be freed and saved from death. Nassar and Philomel having their love story.
Wow that’s uh kinda disappointing but thx now I won’t be heatbroken

If i remember a spoiler i read, it’s more that they were having a discussion and outside the door they heard a noise. She didn’t know what the noise was but he did because he says something like he has very good hearing and can tell who’s who from their breathing. Making her realize that night he had to have known she was at the door ease dropping. So she confronted him bluntly about it and he confessed that he said it knowing she could hear him.
