I’ll be honest I had a hard time the first time, went to read the novel and it was a lot harder because the emotions there were much more painful. But I kept going because the story was different from a lot of manhwa and novels that I’ve encountered.
The universe of ITRG gets bigger as you read the succeeding stories. In book 1, we all think that this story revolves only Aeroc and Clough. In book 2-3 or s2, we explore the character of Clough, and slowly get a glimpse why world 1 was messed up. Clough was this arrogant, cowardly and selfish character, who was attracted to Aeroc, but was in denial, disgusted with his feelings and pursued a relationship with Aeroc’s cousin Rapiel. We can see that he was frustrated by this desire and would nitpick at Aeroc’s flaws. Which is essentially what happened in book 1, Clough would flaunt and use Rapiel to antagonize Aeroc. You can now understand the animosity and where it originated in world 1. But because in world 2, Aeroc mostly kept his relationship with Clough as employer and employee, Clough couldn’t justify his actions and would sometimes be even apologetic.
After that you’ll find out that there is another culprit to why the violence got worse in the previous life, Winter used the omegaverse lore and added a darker twist to it. This story is deeper than just some revenge justice story.
Not a lot of writers would take the time to build foundation, but ITRG explores a lot of things. For example, the nobles who ignored Aeroc in world 1. One of them is a main player in s2, he wasn’t even shown in vol 1. He was just mentioned. But he knows the horror that happened between Aeroc and Clough, but because to this individual the two were vile people, he just let them destroy one another.
The rough part is finishing vol 1… but the story did get better in a sense that everything about world 1 is making sense. The relationship was still toxic in s2, because Clough was selfish, but he does grow to be a better version of himself.
The fun part of all of this is, both OG characters experience a second chance, but they don’t meet each other anymore. Instead they get the same partners without the memories or involvement in world 1. So even OG Clough, the old man in the preview had his own chance. He meets the version of Aeroc who he hasn’t destroyed. The proud noble. In that arc, Aeroc didn’t fall in love with him because Clough scared him, and he hated his guts. You’ll understand Aeroc’s personality, he was awkward and didn’t really know how to deal with people. His proud polite mask-smile. It was more explored in Clough’s return. But you’ll also understand why Aeroc did mutate into an omega, because it was explained there.
It’s a fun novel with two spin-offs. I only read one and it was fluffy, I didn’t expect it to be so funny. Book 2 onwards isn’t tragic, it has its moments of sadness but it wasn’t as gut wrenching as book 1.
I hated it. But then I read the raws, I got intrigued on how the webtoon artists gonna draw the events/scenarios. I just scroll past the disgusting parts or skip few pages. I just stomach the abuse tbh. But I am just mesmerized by the art and I love how the uke is drawn....
