Many people were put off by the blackmail which I totally get, but I do think it did have some impact on their initial relationship where sensei held a more hostile attitude to seme, which shows the contrast that he still melts despite being pampered by someone he should be wary of. And seme was in such a bad stage in his life at the time being disowned, homeless and struggling with his dom-ness that his solution for shelter and being close to his crush was blackmail. Even if sensei was okay with letting him stay with a little pushiness, that’s not something seme would have known having not seen sensei in years. The story also acknowledges that blackmail part was horrible at the end so it’s not like it was totally skimmed over as many blackmail type stories have done T_T
