I agree in that I feel that the recent chapters have really pushed Karino and Azusa's emotional ties and it feels a little too quick to me, however, I wouldn't say it was without basis, and rather, that the story has been going from a crawl to an acceleration. The unexpected moments of kindness from Karino to Azusa, the forced and increasing turn of Azusa's thoughts towards introspection and examining Karino's motives....
I think a turning point for Azusa was definitely just before the summer break, after he got blamed for the fight between Senzaki and Karino, where Karino defends him to his mother. He punches the wall, shakes out his hand, and then blushes intensely. Azusa's a very prideful and quick tempered person and I think one of the things that is very important to him is being seen as strong, independent, powerful. He despises being pitied. So for Karino to acknowledge his will to power, when it feels like Karino has only seen him as an object.... It means something, I think.
