Sometimes authors just want to switch it up a little and try something else, which is totally fine. I don't really understand what's weird about that. I guess, if you don't really like those kinda stories with a darker theme or with some heavy stuff then of course you will be disappointed. But you can't expect the author to do the exact same thing over and over again.
