Seeing a manga that talks about gender identity and sexuality in a non-mocking way and using it to explore how youth transforms and changes only to see people getting hung up on the MC not getting together with the guy (he didnt get together with the girl either truly bc that was not the point at the end anyway) or getting hung up on the fact that the MC chose to “stay a male” at the end (even though he’s never been about wanting to be a woman but rather wanting to experiment and explore his own identity without the gender constraints) is so sad to me
Real. It’s honestly upsetting to see how people ignore the beauty of the story to nit pick at parts like that. Cuz it’s true that the story was a journey of self discovery and exploration of one’s identity. The romance that did happen was but a part of that journey in understanding who they were. People need to realize that it was Makoto realizing he didn’t need to conform to the social constrains of gender and could simply be himself.
couldnt have stated this better.. i dont think it really mattered who the mc ended up with as they were both good options that accepted mc for the way they were and helped him improve his life for the better, show more clarity about his identity and clearing up misunderstandings with those around him.. its a shame people are blinded by the “baited bl” or feel as though he needed to firmly state his identity at the end of the narrative
