i don’t think he’s lying. ml really does love mc and that’s why he’s so fixed on trying to control him. he always knew mc’s end goal was to die after his friends and he was ok with it in the beginning, but along the way he fell in love with mc and that was very clear >>to me<< bc he even changed his own plans to save mc’s life, he became more and more protective and lied to himself saying he just wanted to control mc he’s just another unreliable narrator emotionally constipated ml. mc is the one who has him in the palm of his hand and every enemy of his realized that >on the spot<
the plot felt sooo “sweet second (and often best) ml actually gets chosen” which i love !! the ending was a bit rushed but overall i really like it ♡ it’s so cute and just the right amount of cliche
