A lot of people such as myself find it hard to break out of verbal habits like addressing someone as sir or ma'am especially since its used in place of the person's name and you've gotten used to calling them that way for so long. You're prolly reading too much into it
Very much this. The brain is retrainable but it is very difficult to retrain and sometimes a person can feel physical discomfort when changing things up. (Me for example I feel stupid when I try practicing in front of a mirror for social interactions because I’ve never done it before) besides I don’t recall them ever addressing this yet maybe it’ll come in later chapters now that they both have less obstacles.
Yeah, it just becomes so awkward for me to call them by their name. It just feels so alien that I visibly cringe when I attempt to say it and when people notice my discomfort I feel even worse thinking they might misunderstand. I just try to avoid the situation all together by staying within my comfort zone unless the person addresses it themselves.
