Fanworks make this community go around and make stories in other languages people cant access accesible. And people who access to these stories return the favor to the community by either learning the language and introducing new series, making fanarts or sharing recommendations. In 2010's bl from korea wasnt as popular and there were very few manwhas in the category. But fans translated the few ones that were made and it spread worldwide. Same goes for every media ever consumed and make accesible. Pirating is not bad because people who pirate already arent the types to buy in the beginning. Not everybody is from big western countries with big currencies. Not everybody can afford to spend a few dollars per chapter. Artist do struggle financially, yes. But that's not the fault of the fans without money to spent. That's the greedy corporates who license the series and dont give the creators enough money.
