It not push and pull rather both of them care about each other too much. Both has trauma about guidance. ML afraid he suck MC dry while MC has bad experiences with esper.
To be honest this almost like profundis but in another world where they both had escaped from the torture life. ML had the power to choose while MC doesn't have the burden he need to shoulder.
