Am I missing something? Currently reading the 2nd volume of the novel and I read 8 chapters into the raws and chase is just a fucking asshole? Why do we like him? I’m so confused
Where do I start?
I read the Indonesian tl of this and I’m just like..astonished. No build up, minimal backstory, just straight up into depravity. I’ll go chapter by chapter.
1: this guy named Michael kidnaps Ian, a pirate, after he jumps off and abandons his ship. I don't know if Michael was like part of an enemy ship or something but yeah. So Michael fishes Ian out of the ocean and locks him up in a chest. He then takes him out and rapes him, claiming that he loves Ian. (He says this a lot throughout the story and I’m like…BE SO FR)
2. The rape kind of blurs together atp. I think the opening scene is Ian in Michael’s lap while he fingers him, Michael is talking with his friend. Ian doesn’t really have the restraints on him anymore (but he has things that restrict the movement of his hands), and Michael’s friend mentions that Ian’s so docile. Michael says it’s because he gave him “medicine”
3. 99% sure this part is just rape throughout. More BS of Michael claiming he loves Ian. Ian’s hands are still in like this sort of mitten/cast. I’m pretty sure it’s cuz Michael did something to them but I’m not exactly sure.
4. A glimpse into their sweet domestic life!

But I mean I think it was obvious who Ian was gonna end with anyways. In most BLs the one that’s introduced first is usually the one they end up with.

I personally dont understand why people dislike him so much. Is he lowkey an alcoholic? yeah but its funny. He loved his dog, he helps others in need, has genuine friendships and people he trusts (unlike someone cough cough), and is honestly just an adorable dumbass. His drunken habits are awful..but cmon..hes drunk.
im only continuing to read this cuz daehan is rlly cute and ive seen people say that it'll get better. I rlly hope theres some kind of building or chemistry with jinwoo. I rlly hope jinwoo falls head over heels, bc im just not feeling it rn. I live for the tropes of fell first vs fell harder, and this clearly isnt it.
