I understand the blond betraying the emperor because well he has a good relationship with the empress and the emperor is just now trying to step up and be a husband. So he's probably thinking too little too late. Plus he's probably always seen as the second banana and is very insecure about himself compared to his brother.

And yet she keeps openly flirting with the emperor and is acting like he was the guy that had her back when everyone was trying to kill her.
