Well she wasn't okay with having a child slave to begin with. She bought him to free him, then the attack happened and she assumed he'd run away only for him to follow her home in hopes of being killed. She's "keeping" him so that he doesn't try to attack the manor again because then the duke will really kill him. And the persona of being "an evil slave owner" is to make sure they don't fall into the "obsessed slave" trope. And I doubt he finds what she is doing mocking because he knows that she is trying to wear a disguse, which is why he mentioned having the "eyes of truth." The whole reason she disguesed herself to begin with is to avoid that misunderstanding, she doesn't know he can see through it. So what would you rather she do? Keep the child safe and sound and well fed under the guise of being a slave or let him free so that her dad can kill him?

And don't be like umm that just them be realistic please she has MAGIC HEALING POWERS this is a NOVEL SHE READ we are not going for realistic here. All historical novel need to realize that the don't have to "follow" history if yall got damn elves and magic shit in y'all's books. It's a annoying trope that NEEDS to put to rest. Did you miss the part where she let herself get beat up because she didn't want to cause trouble and started to have PTSD flashbacks of her dad beating her? Also FML is a commoner, she can't fight against a noble lady. The lady backed off because the guy is an important noble.
I get that however the writers can't keep falling back on this trope for this scene to make more sense the authors are going to have to show her receiving therapy to show growth but there no way there going to do that. Also it could have been something else perhaps a wild animal scares the noble lady but are mc isn't afraid because of her past life style. The author took the easy way out and unoriginal way buy having a male save the mc. I just saying the author could and sure do better. (Ps. I think the author might have fucked up with Shinoa on paper she's a really great character but she has no reason behind her like no driving force yk. Like I get her backstory but it doesn't come in to play with her current character because it feels like by the time we first meet her she was over it a d it doesn't affect her anymore. Also she has become to op like why can she already perfectly use the first powers she has no struggle. Which makes it hard to root for her she's slowly because a Mary Sue and it's such a shame because her potential was their but the author cares more about milking who ends up with who.
The writing of the story in general has been going nowhere for YEARS like the plot is great but the writing I feel like the character everyone is slowly becoming a former shadow of their former selfs. The characters don't really have a reason for doing what the do anything their just doing what the plot needs any if out of character.
I do believe the story can get back on track but the author needs to step back and get their passion they had a the beginning but it's starting to feel like a cash cow yk I just hope we can get back on track ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

I fucking hate the slave trope with a passion as a black woman seeing these mostly non black author try to romanize being a slave like. I know it fake but I genuinely feel like it down plays what black people really went through. Because being a slave wasn't just cleaning and what not. Also why do they never have the trauma that would come with being a slave. Also it never felt right when they get into a relationship because if the SLAVE says no they could DIE like it just gets on my nerves. Plus child slaves who have been slaves there whole life wouldn't even try it because all the would know is being a slave they wouldn't know how to read or do other "noble activities" so if the "Master" were like I like you date me the slave would have no control in the matter. Like author bring back they just being in debt pls. Like you could write a world where slavery doesn't exist butttttt no. And don't come at me with the there just be "realistic" she in a novel for fucks sake she have power I can't stand it. What next are the going to romanize "witch burning" Aghhhghh I cant stand it if this is your favorite trope seek help
