That was so lovely! First story is dark & mature with no resolution, while the second story is light-hearted, adventurous & happy. A Goonies type of inspired work with kids just having fun. Loved it! I also appreciate just how much Otomo's drawn settings help bring the story to life. Really fantastic stuff.

Oh, I wish there were more. Really good stuff. It was unique to have an alluring male lover seduce men, but then again sucked they beat the old gay to steal his money, & he's drawn super ugly. Really reminds me it's from 1979. Characters are mainly male & in this story, the only female is reaaally unflattering. Though I know Otomo doesn't always do that, & if anything, it was also funny.
I also feel Otomo always presents things in a dry way. For example, there's a child with no pants & barely a shirt, who's stomach is swollen from hunger. Not to mention his mother ran off & his father is mean. Poor kid is in such a sad circumstance & yet Otomo draws the boy in the goofiest, unflattering way & never gives emotion to try & make us feel sorry. He just objectively shows us. & Even tries to make it funny. He has a unique style which doesn't beg us for a reaction & let's us think on our own. But jeez, this one is like the comedy/ tragedy of life.
THAT WAS THE FUCKING BOMB!!!!! So gorgeous, so lovely!!!!!! I'm happy they're happy!!!
