I’m on chapter 41 and so far all I’ve seen is a female lead whose choices and decisions don’t seem to matter, cheesy and unbelievably unrealistic romance (some of the lines are so crazy they pull me out of the story), and very predictable emotions and characters.

I feel like I kept waiting for a subversion of expectation, where a female character would finally show some backbone or move through a situation without help, but I’m disappointed every time.

I dunno. Maybe I just really hate the trope of “Oh this guy is really annoying, is constantly bothering me, I want him to leave me alone.” “Oh no! He left me alone and I actually like him!!” Like please.

Does it get better?

I’m not sure if it’s just the art style, but it sometimes looks like the Seme is actually hurting the Uke. Like, do you know how hard you have to grab someone for your fingers to bruise them?? Idk, everything else is good but that part… it’s a little too casual.

I actually hate how weak the MC was… I know he’s hot, but he threatened to kill you, forcibly made you live with him/spend time with him, and made you so scared you’d shake at the thought of him… like, he almost killed your best friend??

0-0 it’s sex fam, how are you switching up so quickly??

??? I felt so bad the entire time ;-;

This has been bothering me for a while so I decided that maybe sharing my opinion will help.

This, to me, was actually very disappointing, because even though it had new ideas, characters, and exciting themes: it all became very unrealistic, and even toxic.

The biggest issue I have with this story, is that it romanticises sociopathy. there are people in this world, just like Jung, and those people need therapy - not relationships. Jung is dangerous, and mentally unwell. You can’t spend your life manipulating everyone around you, and expect to get better. If this was real life, the relationship between the main characters would fall through, because Jung has power over Seol, and his peers, which would ultimately lead to psychological abuse and gaslighting. (Did he do this to me? Am I crazy? He could be lying?...)

The second issue I have with story is how inconsistent it was with Soel’s character. She was cutting with some people, and then a complete pushover with others. She HATED Jung, who effectively made her want to leave school- and then was somehow was okay with awkwardly spending time with him? Seol has shown that she is competing fine with walking away from people, so why didn’t she just walk away from him? And no, she still hated him at the time, so that’s not a valid reason.

I could also go into the confusing and lackluster way the series resolved the issues with Inha and Inho, and how Jung never faced any consequences for his actions, and other ways this story messed up.

I don’t usually care so much, or write so much, but I feel genuinely upset because this story had so much potential. It could have been so amazing, and it just sucks that this is how is it turned out.

This is just my opinion though, if you disagree, you disagree. But Jung and Seol should not have ended up together like that, and more things should have been explained.

So i read around till ch180 and dropped it when Jung started being shown as all manipulative. I planned to read it later but now i don't really want to. I agree with u that manipulative people like Jung need therapy not relationships.
Because even if Seol doesn't hate him enough to leave him she will eventually get tired of him being so manipulative and it will become toxic. They shouldn't end up together.

I agree with the therapy part but not the part about her hate of jung and seol being inconsistent—the whole series is literally jungs redemption with flashbacks to their previous encounters. I also think that seol is a character that goes beyond what we’re used to in most modern webtoons where characters can be summed up in three adjectives for their personality types, a hair color, and a singular motive. At the end of the motive, their story ends, but this is where cheese in the trap diverges and becomes a more rounded out story in terms of how dynamic the characters are. Can I ask what specifically u would like explained?

maybe after becoming together everything will be fixed, maybe they will be the best version of themselves

    I completely agree

I love your explanation. The characters feel extremely human with their flaws and all. The more you get to know them, the more you see why they adopted certain behaviour. It’s kind of thinking of your past and understanding yourself and uncovering your trauma, and becoming vulnerable once again. Truly eye opening

You can tell characters have been intricately written when instead of being good/bad, they are real, Grey, people. Although some of the actions don’t make sense, the terrible decisions that they have made (woohun more than the other guy) show motivations, desperation, and behaviour.

Woohun did bad things. But, he is also taking responsibility of these actions, facing consequences, and truly feeling guilt and pain.

This is interesting!

This story has superficial characters, flimsy plot, unrealistic character growth/ motive and was just generally very shallow.

You're forgetting the fact the seme Straight up told The ikebana that his type was Dobin and wouldn't confess himself. It was a joint effort of dumbassery

LetsBeReal August 4, 2020 4:00 am

It might be because i'm tired but I've never wanted to throw hands with a seme so badly.
