He's Gale's step father. In the recent chapter where Gale visits Simon, one of the flashbacks shows Simon and Gale interacting for the first time.

He's Gale's real father, otherwise the DNA evidence that Gale left wouldn't have been traced back to Alster (the dad) and then mistaken for Simon's DNA. They are definitely blood related.

but remember that during all of the evidence scenes w the prosecutor it shows that gale is related to simons father...im guessing that simons father was cheating on simins mother with gales mother and then once simons mother died the father brought in his mistress and her son gale

He's his real father. When know that because of the DNA (the police thought it was Simon who killed all those people because they found DNA of someone related to his dad but it was Gale's DNA).
It's just that their dad had one official family and one secret family. When he was still married with Simon's mom he already had an affair with Gale's mom. Then Simon's mom died (probably killed by the dad) and the secret family became the official family.
