feel bad for the duke ngl (unless he also did smth bad i forgot some of the lore )
R u talking about Parvellone's dad?
Well... I don't? But not because he's a bad person......
If I remember right, he's, fortunately and unfortunately, the type who's so enamored w/his wife that he's a yes man to her
The problem is, it's depicted that his wife never really showed affection for the elder siblings (parvellon and emo guy).
The eldest was ignored and let be (but not spoiled, as nothing of worth was ever given to him based on his pov)
The middle (parvelon) was treated more like a pawn. A subordinate. A tool that she didn't really care if it lived or died.
Unfortunately, the way I interpreted the story is that he chose to just.... follow along her treatment of her sons? Like if she didn't care enough to be motherly to their sons, so why should he? (I COULD BE WRONG. we're dealing w/unreliable narrators almost everywhere in this story)
He doesn't really care about them enough to be "fatherly"- ultimately preventing them from ever receiving family affection
It's hinted that the married couple only ever really care and showed affection for their love child, the youngest (d somewhat positive but dim one - who's life is currently threatened)
*sry for the long reply.... I don't have a lot of people I can discuss story plots with intermittently
He's not their blood father tho?
I'm p sure Parvellone mentioned something about the appearance of his younger brother and eluded to the fact that he looks like his father and mother, not *their* father and mother.
It's why their mom dotes on the younger brother more than the older ones. Or at least that's what I got from all their interactions.
The oldest child is the duke and the duke alone child.
Parvellone is the countess child of her previous marriage.
Leo the youngest is both the duke and the countess Child.
Full-blood father or not..... for me, it's pretty shitty to not give any affection for the older two children just becuase they're not between him and his current wife
(At least, that is what is implied form Parvellone's & the eldest' POV)
Like @Meandme said, they're all still blood related in a way, w/all of the brothers being half-siblings
..... put then again, that sort of parental treatment was pretty usual during their time....
Doesn't make it ok for me tho (it's personal preference thing)
I mean, I come from 6 half-siblings and 3 step-siblings and none of us have ever been treated the same way lol
It wasn't anything as extreme as what Parvellone went through ofc, but I was never treated the same way as my younger siblings as the oldest of them all.
I'm not saying that how Parvellone was treated was OK, but it isn't crazy for parents with more than 2 children to treat them all differently. Kids are also their own individual people.
It's extra messed up when you realize that Duke Kyrimov gives Parvellone more attention than he does Zedgar (his actualy son) because Parvellone has his 2nd wife's blood.
