I have mixed feelings about when he lied and Idk what would’ve been the right thing to do ;-; I’m confused. Was he supposed to say the truth ?

I think it's very right, directly maintaining the status quo. You can't expect everyone to feel calm about a situation, that's just how people's feelings are. He was tough and confident and more so than anything, that one statement was decisive. Had he told everyone he was gay, it would be messy on many levels. There is always a proper way of doing things and if he hadn't done that, some people would have felt to be treated unfairly, would feel awkward, and a lot of things would have stirred up regrettably. There would be complex consequences ahead and relationships to straighten out.
He still has some confessing to do to, say, Seki. I think it's more right when he tells him the real truth after denying the truth itself on the social surface, while telling it really to Seki, an important friend; than on having admitted something delicate to everyone and introduce it to Seki like he would have to introduce it to everyone. In that case correct distribution of his energy to every relationship would be exhausting and oftentimes, awkward.
Wow and this was under the “super cute couple” tag (⊙…⊙ )
