ok so I decided to pick this up again bc I was so confused why the majority of readers in the comment section is cursing the ML, calling him all the worst names and saying that he’s the biggest trash and doesn’t deserve the shou. My azz got curious bc what did Li Yu do to warrant so much hate (when in fact, he was the one being harassed by the MC) and after catching up to the latest chapters, I am more confused than ever. Probably bc I read too many dog blood cn novels/manhuas with toxic MLs that Li Yu seems like a kitten compared to them. Bro cannot even compete against those scumbag male leads from 188 series. Like the real villain is actually the younger brother, that mf deserves to be slapped with a baseball bat.
Anyway, Im not saying that Li Yu is not a red flag (he literally SA’d the shou, he also betrayed him) but I think he’s mostly naive and a fvkng idiot. I would say his age plays a big factor why he did a lot of stupid things and there’s also a power imbalance between him and JSY due to their age gap. Li yu was young, didn’t know better and got easily manipulated by Suiying’s younger bro, using his childhood affection to coax him and making him an accomplice for his revenge. I think what’s sad about LY and JSY situation is the fact that they fell in love with eo and Li Yu still chose the younger bro and betrayed Suiying. Now, Liyu is just reaping what he sowed and I’m glad Suiying never fold easily. I know Suiying is not a saint either, he’s also a red flag and he did harrass Liyu so many times but I think he didn’t deserve all the shits that happened to him. I also think the chasing arc is not that bad since LiYu was so pathetic chasing after Suiying who didn’t give af about him anymore.
But yeah, my most hated character is definitely the younger bro I wanna slice him in half with a samurai. I might read the novel as well bc most of the time, manhua adaptation doesn’t give much justice to the characters of the OG source

I was a big hater of mc, until he became a victim, since he was just so unreasonable, but then .. yeah I pretty early got the shake down, realised that actually ml is pretty unreasonable himself, like dude, you literally.. and then.. but then he acts like he's holy Mary.. but it was violent.. so like.. and then when they're more or less together he was damn cold, it was very shitty. And at this point I think he must have realised that mc's home situation is off, but he still went through it.
Actually maybe because he was an instrument in MCs *fall* that it just makes me so frustrated. And since the little bro is not even human at this point, I instinctively am more angry at ml. Like there's no point getting angry at the bro, he's just pure evil, but thie guy he had some morality, and integrity.. and now he's just too much with literally manipulating the grandfather, basically the only real family mc has . So i understand mc was a sleeze but i always loved him for his confidence and boldness and that just increased when i realized he had been supporting his whole family and none supported him. You can clearly see this when he loses everything and they’re just like welp give it to your brother. I also like ML because he matches mcs arrogance but the reason his betrayal hit harder for me than other mls is th fact ml genuinely liked someone more than him, not a misunderstanding, not a fling, not an arranged relationship. Genuinely used m for sex while liking his brother. Imagine you bend over backwards for someone and they’re in love with your sibling and using your relationship to help them take you down that one scene where mc flirts with him in front of his brother and ML gets so mad because he doesnt want to the person he actually likes to find out made my stomach hurt. I couldnt imagine being a proud person and having this happen. The mcs father had an affair with bros mother, and now the bro is getting the heart of his man too ml wasnt even a bad person originally he was just specifically shitty to mc it makes it worse so im personally glad ml is head over heels now because otherwise too sad to mean so little to someone you liked so much they stole your company for someone else.
The thing about hate towards Li Yu (ML) from readers comes from performative anger too. When u look through this he’s is not that evil, but his character is such a hypocrite. It’s not really clear or somewhat tone down in manhua but in the novel, he is so unlikeable and acts like he’s morally right the whole time so when u read, he makes u angry. And he basically tear down MC’s company because MC is not submissive when he has company, money and stuff. So he basically wants to break his wings so he can gain control. He even said it himself like where’s your morals now, dude? But that plan backfired after MC sign the contract to give the company to his brother. Tbh, I love this couple pairing cuz all that angst makes their dynamic interesting. They have this outgoing bf x calm introverted bf energy and they match each other freaks. And MC is such a brat even in extras and I like brats getting manhandled bu their tops lol.
The manhwa is already done but Im gonna wait for the english version even though it might take a while bc tappytoon is so slow when it comes to updates
The plot and romance are nothing extravagant or special, it’s your typical friends to lovers story wherein uke harbors unrequited love towards his best friend and this said best friend is too heteronormative (u know, dates random women bc it seems to be the norm) to realise he might be in love with the uke (u know, the love of his life). But it is still an enjoyable read to me (bc im a sucker for childhood best friends to lovers trope).

To be honest, Im very fond of Baek-ha (hes the prettiest among all the characters) but I was rooting for dojin x Yeonwoo since day one coz it’s so damn clear the atmosphere between them screams “mutual pining”. Dojin’s confusion is so understandable and it actually surprised me that it took just kissing Yeonwoo for him to fold right away and realise that he wanted him romantically (bro is a total simp). I dont approve of the way he shows animosity towards baek-ha, Yeonwoo’s only friend. But then again, he considers him his rival and doesnt trust him around Yeonwoo coz he knows baek-ha is a sly fox (jokes on him bc baek-ha could pretty much get in between them but he knows it’s gonna be pointless). He’s emotionally mature than what you give him credit for. I want this one to be longer bc I think dojin x yeonwoo x baek-ha’s dynamic is pretty funny and interesting.
But really, Baek ha should have kissed Yeonwoo just once. I do hope he’ll get his own story like a spin-off. Theres nothing stopping the creator for doing it. The dude he bumped into was so cute
