Idk but his real reasoning felt cowardly edit: after reading it again more carefully I understand him way more now and I kinda wish their backstory wasn’t so rushed (kinda?), it makes hayato just look worse than he is (idk if this makes sense oh god) also I think the author doesn’t want this manga to be too long so I can see why the backstory had to end quickly and I’m assuming the manga will end soon too
In the end it’s a tragic situation for them both in the past, all of it boils down to the system they had and I’m sure the girl also probably didn’t wanna marry him but that’s what they were forced to do and even in the present they still have an oppressive system not to mention how taboo homosexuality is in their country </3
