Okay I've read that chapter again and Lyle went to see ash but Hazel was there first. Lyle wanted to leave but was like "no I can't loose him, he's all I have" and turned around. Ash introduced him to Hazel and said something along the lines of "he's my lover so leave us alone. I don't want you" because Hazel left Ash for someone else in America. No one knows the real reason why Ash and Hazel split up (Ash said it himself) so that's why they like him. Hazel expected Ash to come back to him because "Lyle can't help you with your ruts because he's an alpha" and started crying and playing the victim, saying how sorry he is but eventually left after Ash told him to
