Iirc the egg is a part of a test to prove that Kouchi is a suitable bride. Because the haters were saying Cauis abandoned his people and now he wants a drawf wife after he turned down a hot Titan bride. So his siblings who are secretly on his side suggested a test to prove that Kouchi is worthy and by extension Cauis is worthy to be king again. But haters gonna hate ig. And sometimes try to murder you.
