ok so it's pretty weird but i think the ending is about how acchan felt like she's fine and contented with just being with the other girl, have some intimacy and all, despite humanity was completely erased but then right after she woke up-- the realisation that "oh. it's like this again. we're alone," had hit her maybe bc she had a drink the night before that made her sex with the other girl such a dream and a living fantasy that made her consider that maybe her life ain't really lonesome at all but at the end she woke up and felt really miserable and tired of her own lies and their new lives.

totally off topic, but i just remember a book because of this story. in the book that i read, a son of a nazi and a jew became friends but were also separated by a fence and unfortunately, things ended pretty badly. so yeah, good thing this story ended well.
