after reading comments i was a lil scared. and the tag "slut" when you add it to reading list made it seem like this probs pandered to guys with major issues....like i was already feeling like it was gonna be typical trash to the extreme. but it was surprisingly not so bad. it was pretty refreshing even? there really aren't many mature manga that give women agency. this 100% is. it's setting is in a world where there's still the same bs as here just magnified. she's dealing well and hussling like a pro. anyone who tries to slut shame her, say it's misogynistic (it might turn out to be later but this first chapter is certainly not) for her to pick that job etc; y'all need to stay in your lane, ok? from the sound of it she has very fucking limited options; sex worker with agency and self respect who has to deal with the bs treatment of her customers but still has the freedom to choose or refuse customers - or slave without any rights or agency at all; surely to be bought by that fucking ota trash and made to call him master until he grows tired of her and builds a fucking harem. I think i'll check out that novel.
I'd just like to add that for this time period if you weren't married, not of status (aka nobility) or if you were poor, women could only have very few jobs like milk maids (actual maids are usually of status or of some wealth to work in a wealthy environment), begging and a more popular, safer job was prostitution under a bar.
there's protection, food, warmth, and an actual income (which for women, especially young women is rare). this environment also is a breeding ground for stds and stis (unknown at the time and not special caution was around) but i don't think this manga will particularly care for that.
in terms of historical jobs for women while it wasn't the best nor the safest, prostitution was the best most accessible job for this time period (give or take some exceptions, im no expert i just read a bunch of nastier history)
