A lot of people are confused so I'll explain what happened
The empress has a kid white hair, he has a cousin the black hair who is the true ML. The empress made a deal with a neighbour emperor that she will give him her son for experiments in exchange for the black magic book.
She didn't want to give her son tho so she did black magic and changes appearances of the two children.
So now the ML (blackhair) looks like white hair and was sent off to study abroad aka be experimented on
And White hair looks like black hair now, he was born psyco and does voodoo shit and killed beasts for his thirst for blood which is why black hair got the reputation of being cursed (even tho it was actually white hair that did it)
When ML was abroad cosplaying as white hair, he finds FL and falls in love but since he's cosplaying as white hair, the FL thinks the person she loves is white hair.
Fast forward ML returns home, and they are back to their original appearances. But ML has no memory of the time he was cosplaying as white hair because of the empress magic. He only gets his memories of FL back after empress dies.
During the time ML didn't remember FL, FL who still thought her lover was white hair sends a letter to white hair asking to reunite. White hair didn't lose his memories of the switch so he decides to steal FL from ML out of spite.
But now FL realized that her true love was ML (black hair) this whole time and finds out the truth about the switch
And so that's what happened... Sorry for the long explaination.

I think another point to put in their is that the Demios was never chosen to be the next emperor so Demios had his father killed by the empress’s black magic, and that’s why he didn’t have that thing that every previous emperor would pass onto the next to prove that they are the true chosen emperor. I think it’s a relic of some kind….but Roxanne knew where it was so he may end up becoming the new emperor.
