Its the theme plot of the story I'm afraid. And for Maki's side, it would rather him doing it, proving he's capable of giving the 'punishment' than having Katsumi trying to look for other substitute for it.

Depending on what you didn't like about the dynamic of the two other couples, u'll find it repeated here. The large gap in power between the couple, a dude who pretty much has no other option but to be with this dude and unhealthy possession and aggression. So if that's not for u, i don't see it working out for u. BUT IF U JUST HERE FOR TWO RIPPED DUDES! STAY GIRL!
Oh I’m staying, don’t care much about the power whatever. My problems with the previous works had to do with pacing, under developed and uninteresting main character and (hilarious enough) too many sex scenes.

[Cut to Zuko training. The view is from the abandoned village. A smoking hill is seen in the distance. Cut to Zuko getting blown back by an explosion. He has a frustrated look on his face and clenches his fist. Iroh looks on while leaning against the building in the background.]
Zuko: Why can't I do it? Instead of lightning, it keeps exploding in my face! Like everything always does!
[Iroh gets up from his spot and walks over to Zuko. Zuko stands up.]
Iroh: I was afraid this might happen. You will not be able to master lightning until you have dealt with the turmoil inside you.
[Zuko turns to him, an angry look on his face.]
Zuko: [frustrated and enraged] What turmoil?
Iroh: Zuko, you must let go of your feelings of shame if you want your anger to go away.
Zuko: But I don't feel any shame at all! I'm as proud as ever!
Iroh: Prince Zuko, pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source. True humility is the only antidote to shame.
