I don't have an asphyxia kink so the whole chapter was like "oh, ah, i see, mmm, yeah Taesung is rotten ಠ_ಠ''
I'm really glad you said this because it really highlights our different tastes. To readers who like breath play or breath control during sex, they probably enjoyed this. To readers who don't, they probably read this chapter with frustration because it highlights the violence and control Taesung is trying to hold over Sooyoung (which is unhealthy and frankly dangerous). And more importantly, it highlights the characters, especially Sooyoung.
For someone to be choked during sex requires a lot of trust. Obviously, the act of choking in this case was not after consent was given. The fact that Sooyoung enjoyed it showcases that he has lost control of himself. He has not only given in to the pleasure but he has also let go of the reins of his own decisions and life (not by choice). Taesung has taken control and although it is romanticized and Sooyoung himself doesn't seem to mind, it exemplifies the intrusion of one's boundaries and psyche (especially when one is vulnerable). If this story continues like this, it'll become dangerous. There's nothing sexy about being violently choked (he had visible bruises) without consent and being "punished" for having an opinion (to not want to talk).
Maybe I'm thinking too much but I find that the character development is so interesting in this story because both characters, although feel so confident in their decisions, are actually very lost as people. Yes, we are not perfect and I find that this story illustrates the way we make stupid (and dangerous) mistakes and that our emotions are unpredictable. Sorry for such a long post...
No sorry, i meant that since i didn't focus on the asphyxia (because seriously, i don't mind seeing it and i just feel adversity towards it but i respect everyone tastes), i focused on the scenes before that part. Taesung treating him like a pet instead of a person. That's what I meant. I have actually seen a whole lot of asphyxia in other mangas or webtoons is just that the characters relationship wasn't as fucked up and as toxic as theirs (Sooyoung and Taesung). Sorry :(
Oh no, I absolutely get what you mean! I think you have a valid point in being focused on Taesung's behavior prior to sex. I think I was just ranting a bit because I agreed with your opinion of Taesung being a major jerk in this chapter. I just wanted to point out the parallels of their relationship with how invasive choking (without consent) and Taesung (in the memorial hall) were.
And I agree with you and respect the way you've stated your view on asphyxia. I feel the exact same way. Lol, I hope I didn't sound too angry or preach-y with my essay. Bwahaha
This is extremely well said, thank you.
You've basically perfectly summed up and explained the way I feel about the story currently - *and* even some of the comments - and put it into perspective very well.
I honestly have been feeling uncomfortable enough with this lately that I may have to drop it, at least for the time being, if it continues in the same vein. Since I don't even belong to the group who enjoys the breath play itself out of context - it's like you said, all that remains in my case is the frustration at the rest of it.
In fact, I felt off-put enough by all those problematic factors you mentioned that I actually felt uncomfortable even at seeing the comments that were talking solely about how "hot" they found the latest chapter while ignoring the problematic parts that felt so prominent to me. Though now that I think about it the way you put it - if they truly enjoy breath play a lot, I suppose it makes a great deal of sense that they would still be able to find it enjoyable while not focusing on the context so much, and that focusing on the part they like would make the problematic parts feel less prominent.
Again, thanks for the spot-on analysis. If it was possible to upvote / like a reply, I totally would! :) +1
No, it was actually nice seeing that someone agrees with me. We have already seen that Taesung is pulling Sooyoung towards his 'shit'. It makes me worried that Sooyoung is not seeing the problem and I believe is because he has problems of his own. Anyway this is not leading to a happy ending and, just if, the author manages to reach a happy ending, I hope all this gets solved well
