this makes me really uncomfortable.. why're people saying it's not racist when the author clearly said "because i have dark hair and dark skin"?? those are the attributes that she incorporated with "dark magic" which is viewed as evil
overall, her as a "dark skinned asian" [i think she is] and them viewing her negatively is very colorist
edit: people saying you shouldn't bring racism into things,, they could've just left it at her with light skin in the beginning

in the novel, her skin becomes lighter and they view her as good in the end so like ??? idk why you still think it's NOT racist. ignorance

Because color isn't race?... She's the same race as them, from the same area, but their race can have different colors based on magic affinity. The colors aren't races, the colors are affinities and the dark spirit king has a bad rep. If we're being realistic, the author probably chose black and white as good and evil because that's been done for a long time, rather than because they are racist. You really ARE just bringing race in where it's not even a talking point.

You know that color can exist within a race, right? There are light and dark asians, hispanics, blacks, indigenous, and europeans. And in MANY cultures those who are lighter are praised. My mother for example is a darker filipina and she was constantly ridiculed and compared to lighter filipinas. In many asian countries, skin whitening products are extremely popular. Colorism exists within races/ethnic groups of people. If it really was just about bad and good, they wouldn't have had the need to tan or darken her skin. Many different mangas have shown bad and good with white and black without darkening the character's skin, so yeah, it is a race thing. Also, the fact that they change her skin tone to a lighter color in order to be excepted by others is fucked up! Like how can you possibly find that resolution satisfying if she has to become "lighter" in order to be societally acceptable. Associating dark skin with evil and other negative connotations is extremely disrespectful to people of color. And in the social and political climate we are in right now in the world, the author should be more than aware that this would be offensive to certain readers. And even if her readers aren't dark skin, that doesn't mean that this type of message should be acceptable.

You're just making my point, i literally just said this. "Colir isn't race" meant "colors exist within races". In other words, her race isnt the issue so it isn't racism and her color is givin a backstory as to why it's hated. Because it's the color of the dark spirit king. If the dark spirit king's color were white this wouldn't even be a thought, but you race baiters like to involve race in everything...

Also, she becomes accepted through effort (you know, the ENTIRE point of the story?) and is rewarded with lighter skin, she isnt given the lighter skin TO become accepted. It's just symbolic... stop freaking out. As far as the supposed racial message, black and white are only self applied to race. They're just colors and they've been used to symbolize good and evil with no relation to race whatsoever for a long time... look at yin and yang, is that secretly whites vs blacks too?

Also, you might be a pedophile? Looking at this: http://www.mangago.zone/home/mangatopic/3010280/
But, who knows? Idc anymore.

Why i do i lowkey not want her to meet the king or for him to fall for her? He has 30 others

This is Not about having 30 others though?
The system goes like 31 ladies are consort in training and the king has to visit each one of them consecutively right?
There was also the page where the guards implied that the king was err hesitant? about this whole system.
I dunno man. We're barely in the story
I'm a sucker for these kind of tropes though ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
i don't even get why she was mad?? im so confused
Because off the teasing
Oh wait nope actually it was because of what the old man said
