I love manga, especially fantasy manga, but I'm always hesitant about the horror genre. I know this is supposed to be the greatest manga of all time so someone tell me if it really is scary or not. No spoilers please!
It can be scary if you can't handle gore. Lots of blood and guts spilling, torture and rape, also demons, monsters and some traumatic ghost possesion.
I can handle gore with a purpose but not if it's unnecessary. If I watch the 97 anime, will I be able to tell if I'll like it?
All the articles i've read recently say the 97 anime is pretty darn close to the manga. Which movie are you referring to? I really don't mind gore as long as its not like horror movie frightening. I feel like guts spilling torture and rape are scarier but once again if its not senseless and its for the sake of the story then I won't mind. Is that how it is?
the violence always have it's place in this world, it is not senseless or for shock factor. I don't find Berserk like those chills horror movies to jump scare you or make you unsettling, but some depictions of violence are very graphic. If you just want to make an idea of the gore, the trilogy movie titled BERSERK: golden age arc made in 2012 are a good way to start and faster to get what it's like, but keep in mind it's the most tame arc.
