The way I see Yaeji, her love language is definitely physical touch and sex... Lots of it.
She doesn't hesitate to engage in PDA, even when her relationship with Minjae is new. She doesn't hesitate to lean on him, cuddle or just let him hold her when he's feeling clingy. And of course the copious amount of sex they have and the new things they try out. Compared to Minjae who's love language is more on acts of service. He dotes on her, does alot of physical labor (like carrying her stuff or student council stuff) and sexual favours.
There are other subtle things like her talking to her friends about him, heck recently she introduced him to her closest friends and eating lunch together with her coworkers. She respects him and their relationship. Not once she had ever thoughts or entertained the idea of getting back with her ex/TA when he was being creepy and disrespectful. She even drew boundaries, which still gets violated by the ex and by strangers who aren't even in her circle.
Her main priority is her studies, her scholarship, her library job and her duties as a student council president. All that while in the middle of being in a love triangle "scandal". It's kind of understandable why she would be angry and disappointed if her partner would be immature and incite fights because of jealousy. She worked her ass off for 2 years to financially support her family and now has the opportunity to finish her education. She's got no time for that nonsense!!!
While I can see that she isn't perfect ( good lord I hate that her conflict resolution was to immediately fuck it out) and her communication with Minjae needs a LOT of work, but you can see her opening up more to him. She might not be 100% in love with Minjae just yet but the fondness and affection is there. And since this manhwa is still ongoing, we will definitely see them grow closer and grow as characters.
All that being said, it's definitely sad to see how much hate she is getting in the comments. She's such a nuanced character. If she was a man and this was a BL or if she and Minjae switched genders,,, y'all would be eating this manhwa up.
I'm not trans but i'am 100% all for Trans Rights, but i really shouldn't be commenting on Emito's transition journey. How that should look like, what's right or wrong, everyone's journey is different!!!!
But narratively... Emito's transition was SOOO not for the right reasons. (Also i'll be using they as Emito's pronouns as i rant some more).
First of all, Why the DUCK are you transitioning for a man's love? Not once has Emito ever expressed wishing to be female aside from their confession that they wish to be Lia just so Suisei would look at them. Wanting to be seen as Mama in their childhood or volunteering to take on traditionally house wife duties, doesnt make a person female. Dafuq?
Second, although rushed, Suisei just discovered he has the option to be bisexual. So to imo, the transition feels unnessary????
Third, the fact Emito transitioned to LOOK like Lia because he "loves" her... Feels more like a very unhealthy obsessission, babe.
Lastly, we really didnt need Emito to discover their gender identity after getting pimped and ed. YIKESSSSS? WTFFFF??? Also Emito cheating on their triad with the other polycule was SO UNNECESSARY??? I feel like somehow it would have been better if they asked the Bi Bartender advice? That man probably is more involved with the queer community than the sleezy other polycule.
EDIT: just wanted to clarify my statement: "Wanting to be seen as mama in their childhood...doesnt make a person female"
We were briefly in Suisei's POV at Lia's parent's funeral, Suisei desperate to make a devastated Lia stop crying, he volunteer's to be her Daddy while Emito volunteers to be her Mommy.
Since we dont get a glimpse into Emito's inner feeling at the time (honeslt barely as the story progresses until shit hit the fan) I dont personally think of it as them wishing to be female at the time? It feels more like they're choosing to take more on traditionally female roles. Like in their adult hood, they volunteer as the "house husband".
If someone points out child!Emito dressed as a little girl should have been a sign that they're transgender.. boiiii imma fight you!! They were being pimped out by their mom at the time to pdfile???? Does not help that as adults, Lia and Suisei were not able to save Emito in time. Like... Their transition feels more like a trauma response??? I dont like that for them!!! Jfc. Completely unnecessarry but i think it happened to "soften" the blow of his cheating. Cause no one is talking about that...
Also Also....When it does become Emito's POV, they kept asking themselves "What am i?". Narratively, I interpreted it as them stressing about their place with in the polyship rather than them pondering about their gender identity???
Perhaps because I am cis, I dont undertand or completely missed the nuances and the subtleties of Emito's transition. But like narratively their sex change or the crazy way they discovered their identity really didnt make any sense aside from shocking the reader and lowkey demonizing the trans character, imo.
Anyways thanks for lreading me rant if you got this far. lmao
